‘Copyright’

‘Files Included’

Here you will find a list of the documents. The documents are named following a convention using: Year, Month, Date, followed by a reference to the content. This means that if sorted by document name they will appear in chronological order. They are categorised and can be filtered to select letters, sealed or otherwise, notes from army, navy, artisans, etc. You will also find a brief description of each document’s content.

‘Characters’

This sheet lists the majority of the people mentioned in the documents. At the top can be found links to find lists of Generals & Brigadiers and Admirals of the fleet, The Board of Ordnance, the Regiment of Invalids and a list of the reigning monarchs during the period.

It then lists the individuals giving a brief description of their role and in many cases including a hyperlink to obtain more information from the internet.

‘Ships’

This sheet lists of the various types of ship. Then goes on to list the many ships mentioned with a brief description of them with internet links for most.

‘Locations’

A list of locations mentioned in the documents with descriptions and internet links.

‘Anatomy of a Gun’

To supplement the list of items, this is a drawing of a ‘great gun’ with the parts identified.

‘Items, Terms and Abbreviations’

A list of the less well-known items, terms and abbreviations used in the documents with a brief description.

‘Weights & Measures’

A list of weights and measures used with images of the symbols used to represent them.
